Translation
English translation Here lies an outstanding prudent man, competent in law, Egidius van den Steen, whom Flanders has brought forth, once dean of the church of the [Holy] Cross in Liège, at the same time canon of this church too. Whosoever tramps this path, I beg you, hold still your steps and pour out humble prayers for the deceased. He died in the year of salvation 1504 on the 28th day of the month of May.
