Additional remarks In 1522 Jan Aerts van Brueghel registered as a student at Louvain University where he obtained his degree of Master in the liberal arts. In 1535/6 he purchased citizenship of 's-Hertogenbosch where he was active as steward of the chapter of St John's church. He married Elisabet van Tefelen, with whom he had a large number of children, five of whom were buried in this grave.

Additional remarks Mathijs was a son of Jan Aerts van Breughel and Elisabet van Tefelen. He obtained his doctorate in Louvain in 1554 and became a canon at Geertruidenberg in 1557. When this town fell he obtained a canon's prebend in St John's church in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1575 and was buried there beside the altar of St Laurence.
