Additional remarks Coenraad van Malsen van Asperen was the first mitred abbot of Berne Abbey (granted by papal bull on 1534/03/27). In 1546 he commissioned the building of a countryhouse named 'Het Slotje' in Heeswijk, which was to be used by himself and the future abbots of Berne Abbey. Its fa├žade still shows a memorial tablet bearing the initials and heraldry of Coenraad van Malsen van Asperen. Furthermore, Berne Abbey still possesses (part of) his crosier.
