Additional remarks (original location) According to Stumpel a new retable was placed in the chapel around 1533. Stumpel speaks of a 'coherent arrangement consisting of the monument, altar, ceiling and windows'. There were windows (probably destroyed during the French period) with the portraits of the members of the Van Nassau dynasty (probably only the direct ancestors of Hendrik, viz. Engelbrecht I, Jan IV, Jan V and Hendrik III himself). The full Nassau genealogy was represented in a range of tapestries (1533) which were hung in Hendrik's palace in Breda.

Additional remarks Hendrik III died on 13 September 1538. He was the first person to be buried in the new vault below the tomb. On 14 March 1539 Hendrik's widow, Mencía de Mendoza, founded masses worth fifty guilders for the commemoration of her husband at the altar in the 'Herenkoor'.

Technical research
Specification (technical research) Radiographical research in 1951 revealed iron supports inside the bearers, from the shoulders to their feet. These armatures (and the iron supports bearing the upper slab) caused several cracks in the tomb monument.
