Phases in the institutional history Foundation of a church in the sixth century by bishop Monulfus. Originally, St Servatius's Church may have been a monastery of Benedictine monks. From 727 it functioned as a chapter. It is likely that originally St Servatius's Church was also a parish church. Before the year 1200, the neighbouring St John's Church was founded and took over the function of parish church.
