Short history of the building stages 1587: The Gothic church is destroyed by the Beggars. Only the choir and transept are restored in the beginning of the seventeenth century. The tower collapses shortly after its reconstruction. 1823: Restauration of the remnants. The transept has disappeared in the meantime as well. 1894: The badly detoriated church is demolished to make place for a new church. 1897: Construction of a new church, designed by Pierre Cuypers.
