Additional remarks
Additional remarks • The Van Beesd van Heemskerck-Van Diemen family had strong ties with the convent of St. Bartholomeüsdal: Dirk Dirksz. van Beesd had entered the convent around 1517 and his brother Cornelis was a warden there. Furthermore, their parents Dirk Dirksz. van Beesd van Heemskerck and Geertruid Franksdr. van Diemen founded a memorial mass at St. Bartholomeüsdal. • A watercolour copy was made after the portrait of Dirk Dirksz. van Beesd van Heemskerck (father), see Van Bueren 1999, p. 230. It shows the head of Dirk Dirksz. van Beesd van Heemskerck being flanked by two shields: on the left a lion standing on its hind legs, and on the right the wheel and sword of St Catherine. The triptych’s memorial text of Dirk is reproduced on the watercolour, with the addition: "en leijt begraven tot chartuse buyten delft. bidt voer die zijel” (“and lies buried in Charteuse outside of Delft. Pray for his soul”).
