Additional remarks In the catalogue of the National Gallery (1995) it is assumed that the now missing central panel depicted an ‘Ecce Homo among clouds’, but given the presence of the Virgin, St John the Evangelist and Mary Magdalene on the wings, a ‘Crucifixion’ would be more plausible as central scene.
