Additional remarks Born in Amsterdam as the son of Pompejus Occo and Gerbrich Claes Jacob Maertgensdr. He attended latin school and travelled to France, Italy and Germany. Occo had a firm Catholic faith. In 1566, he fled to Utrecht because of the threat of the Reformation, which made him loose his citizenship of Amsterdam. He eventually returned to Amsterdam. After the 1578 Alteration, Occo and other Catholic dignitaries were forced to leave Amsterdam. Occo and his wife Liesbeth Jacobsdr. Brouwer alias Bam settled in Kalkar, where Liesbeth's brother also lived.
