Additional remarks Son of Jan Sampsons and Hillegont Loyer. He was born outside 's-Hertogenbosch for he became a citizen only in 1501/2. Joris was a very wealthy merchant and a devout man, favouring the Illustrious Confraternity of Our Lady in particular. In 1502(?) he married Engelken Pietersdr. Coolen, with whom he had at least one son and six daughters (based on memorial painting). Joris probably died of the plague and was buried in the St. Janskathedraal (St John's Cathedral) in 's-Hertogenbosch.
