Traces of polychromy? Traces of green, gold and red paint. The black letters are placed against a red background, which probably served as a foundation for gilding.

Completeness Incomplete: a fragment. The shape of the tablet suggests that it was originally surmounted by a religious image. The now missing lower right corner may originally have shown a heraldic shield. If this was indeed the case, the shield has been hacked away.

Translation
English translation In the year of the Lord 1497 on the first of November died the venerable man, master Arnold van 's-Gravesande, licentiate of both laws, canon of this church, buried here. Pray for him.
Dutch translation In het jaar des Heren 1497 op de eerste van november stierf de eerbiedwaardige man, meester Arnold van 's-Gravesande, licentiaat in de beide rechten, kanunnik van deze kerk, hier begraven. Bid voor hem.
