The painting shows all types of people walking towards the Fountain of Life (Christ) to receive Holy Communion. They are kings, bishops, knights and other members of the nobility, poor and disabled people, and other men, women and children. In the foreground, Jan Clemenz. is kneeling down with a chalice in his hands. He is surrounded by members of the clergy and members of religious orders. The men have pride of place (on the heraldic right of the religious scene). The frame shows attributes of the Passion of Christ and persons who were involved in the Passion. |
