|
Specification | St Barbara is invoked against death in childbirth; St Elizabeth of Hungary (exterior right wing) is invoked against illnesses; St Anne (exterior left wing) is invoked by those wishing to have children. According to Moes (Iconographia Batavia, 1897-1905), the Dominican convent in Haarlem was in possession of a (stained) glass portraying Augustijn with his two prematurely deceased sons. The death of these sons may explain the choice of saints for the triptych. |
